This app will not receive any further development. It is recommended to switch to PPP Widget 2, which is also compatible with Lollipop (Android 5.0 and 5.1).

With this app, you can use your 3G modem stick or modem-enabled phone to access the internet on your WiFi-only Android tablet through the USB host. Please note that not all device combinations are guaranteed to work - it is important to carefully read and understand the requirements listed below:

• !! Attention !! Newer Google devices with stock Android > 4.2 have kernel module loading disabled. PPP Widget is unlikely to work on these devices. It is recommended to use PPP Widget 2, which does not require kernel drivers.
• If you receive a "No driver" message, this is not a problem with PPP Widget. Please refer to the FAQs on the developer's website (http://www.draisberghof.de/android/pppwidget.html) for more information. Once again, it is advised to switch to PPP Widget 2.

Requirements:

• Root access is necessary (with either "Superuser" or "SuperSU" app).
• USB host function is required (an OTG adapter will usually suffice).
• A powered USB hub may be needed, unless your device has sufficient power.
• Some devices (e.g. Samsung) may require additional kernel drivers.
• Your modem must provide serial ports and use the standard PPP protocol.

This app is free and contains no advertisements or data gathering.

Details:

This widget serves as a frontend for the PPP daemon, allowing internet access through almost any USB device with modem capabilities, including mobile phones.

For 3G sticks, the app includes the usb_modeswitch tool which can automatically switch them into modem mode in most cases.

While this app requires root access for device preparation and establishing the connection, it does not modify any system files.
